The S.S. COOS BAY |
Description |
This is a black and white photo of the portside of a steam schooner in the ocean. The photo is taken at a three quarters angle from the bow. On the hull of the bow are the words "COOS BAY", and about half way down the hull, in large block letters, is the name "AL PIERCE CO." The main deck is filled with stacks of lumber. Each large stack of lumber has three cables strung over it. Aft of the lumber is a crane, whose body is positioned on the port side of the ship. A man is standing at the port side rail between the lumber and crane. In the stern of the ship, just behind the last stack of lumber, rises the ships navigation deck, which is built on top of a pillar and is almost as wide as the ship itself. On the port side of the navigation, a lifeboat is suspended in the air, but it is not clear what is holding it up. Aft of the navigation deck, two smokestacks can be seen. These stacks are located on the port and starboard side and there is a large mast situated between them. The mast looks to have radio gear attached to its point, with a large number of lines running down to various attachment points in the stern. The left side of the frame, in the background, shows wooded hills. |
